While a patient speaking clearly can also suggest an open airway, it primarily indicates that there is no immediate obstruction at that moment. Similarly, intermittent coughing can demonstrate that the airway is partially open, but it is not a definitive sign that the airway is entirely clear and functioning optimally. Lastly, the absence of visible obstruction is important, yet it does not provide complete assurance about the airway's effectiveness, since other factors – like the ongoing respiratory effort – must also be assessed.
